Murphy North Carolina

Murphy, North Carolina, is located "two hours from anywhere," and "a day's drive from half of the USA." It's a great little town that serves as the county seat for Cherokee County. It has a delightful downtown with restaurants, country stores, antiques, a coffee house/wine shop, herbal essences, pharmacies, and churches old and new.

Murphy is located on the Hiwassee River and has a small park and recreation area for public enjoyment of the riverfront. It is known for good schools and medical services and has an Ingles Grocery, Wal-Mart and a new Lowes. Tri-County Community College is located in nearby Peacetree.

A new Wellness Center, opened June 2007 provides an array of swimming and workout options.

"Murphy is one of the top - 10 developing markets for second homes nationwide"

There are a number of nearby recreational opportunities - too numerous to list. A few notables include the world famous John C. Campbell Folk School, white-water rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center or Ocoee River, the Appalachian Trail, Great Smoky Mountains National Forest, Nantahala National Forest, Hiwassee Lake, Fontana Lake, Great Smoky Mountains Railroad rides, horseback riding, and llama treks, to name a few. In addition, there are a number of music, craft and heritage festivals throughout the year.

In 2005, Murphy was listed in Forbes Magazine as being number six in the top ten list of developing markets for second home nationwide. See Cherokee County website for full article.
